What is the purpose of a background check?

What should I bring to my appointment?

Completed BCIA 8016, REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE form provided by the requesting agency.

Valid photo identification. Expired identification is not accepted.

Payment for the fingerprint-rolling fee, Department of Justice (DOJ), and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fees.

While often paid by the agency you will be employed with, some applicants may be required to pay the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fees. Please check with your requesting agency.
How do I check the status of my background check?
The Applicant Background Check Status link below will provide the applicant with a view of the fingerprint background check status; this status is not an indication of the employment or licensing status. An applicant should request a status of their fingerprint background check only with the agency that requested their background check. The Applicant Background Check Status is located at: https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov/. The ATI Number and Date of Birth are required to perform a search.
What is my ATI Number?
At the conclusion of the fingerprinting session, you will be provided an applicant transaction identifier (ATI) number, which is a number used to identify the transaction. The ATI number can be found at the bottom of the BCIA 8016, REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE form.
